IMPACT Photonics
Currently, there are dozens of ongoing or active constellation projects, with thousands of satellites that incorporate laser communication in their missions. However, the technology used, based on continuous wave (CW) lasers, is only effective in satellite-to-satellite communications in space, as atmospheric attenuation, caused by multiple factors, hinders or blocks signal transmission in earth-space and earth-to-earth links, at the levels required to enable transmission speeds of tens or even hundreds of Gbps. ENLACE proposes a system based on ultrashort pulse lasers, recently demonstrated in earth-to-earth connections at transmission speeds of > 1 Gbps, to be extended to > 25 Gbps, in earth-to-earth and earth-space links, being immune to atmospheric effects. It incorporates modules and hybrid architectures of integrated photonics and pulsed fiber lasers of power, offering an unprecedented solution in the market.
